Kharkiv National Radioelectronics University:
A European-class Education

An international seminar presenting the results of the European Union’s Tempus/Tacis Project "Development of a New Framework for M.Sc. Thesis Work" will take place in Kharkiv on 8 October. Participants will include university academic persons from Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk, as well as from Finland and Greece.

This Tempus/Tacis project has been implemented by the Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics (KNURE), together with the Jyvaskyla University (Finland) and Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece).

Today, the Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics is the first post-secondary institution in Ukraine to have developed a new Master’s programme, which is based on European principles. Thanks to this system, Ukrainian students can obtain credit for courses they completed abroad, and vice-versa—European universities can provide credit for courses or whole study programmes completed at the Kharkiv university.

Thus, the KNURE is gradually integrating into the European education system. Students will no longer have to take a formal academic hiatus from their studies in Ukraine in order to take courses or undergo internships abroad. In addition, to graduate from a European university they do not have to repeat courses already taken in Ukraine.

At this time, thirty-seven KNURE students are studying in Finland and the Netherlands, and this year some of them will be receiving Master’s degrees. Their four years of study in Kharkiv were credited towards their studies at the European universities.

Another important result of the project is that the Bachelor’s programme in MIS at KNURE has also been recognised as being equivalent to a European bachelor’s degree. This is a great achievement, since computer specialist training in Ukraine has been assessed as being at a lower level than in Europe.

Journalists are invited to participate in the press conference marking the inauguration of the international seminar. KNURE rector M. Bondarenko and Tempus/Tacis project co-ordinators will be in attendance.

Press conference starts on October 8 at 11:00.

Address: KNURE, 14 Lenin Av. Kharkiv, Conference Hall
